Tampa Tribune, The (FL) - December 6, 1995 Deceased Name: ROSALYN L. CANNER ROSALYN L. CANNER, 72, of St. Petersburg died Sunday in Boulder, Colo. A native of Malden, Mass., she moved to this area in 1955 from Boston. She was a retired co-owner of Canner Jewelers in Clearwater, a member of the charter board of the Neighborly Center (now Neighborly Senior Services), a screening director for Women in Community Service, past president of the St. Petersburg Chapter of B'nai B'rith Women, and a member of Hadassah, the executive board of the Jewish Federation of Pinella s County, and Temple Beth-El. She is survived by two sons, Marshall S. of Roanoke, Va., and Alan J. of Boulder; a brother, Gerald A. Friedman of Hanover, N.H.; and 11 grandchildren. David C. Canner , 72, a longtime volunteer Rosalyn L. Canner, a prominent volunteer for more than three decades, has died at age 72. Mrs. Canner, honored for her efforts on behalf of religious and charitable groups, died Sunday (Dec. 3, 1995) in Boulder, Colo., at the home of her son, Alan. The cause was pancreatic cancer, her son said Monday. She had exploratory surgery at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in early October and went to Colorado recently, he said. Widely known during the 1960s and 1970s for her work with a variety of local charities, she devoted recent years to Neighborly Senior Services. She was a member of the charter board of Neighborly Center, the former name of the organization, and worked for it until February 1993. Beginning in 1977, she supervised sites for the agency's congregate dining facilities. During much of that time, she managed the facility at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. For a number of years she led the local Hadassah and attended national conventions as a delegate. She served on the executive board of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County, as its secretary from 1975 to 1977. She also was a past president of the St. Petersburg chapter of B'nai B'rith Women and a longtime member of Temple Beth-El. She produced and moderated an original show for International Women's Day in 1975 for the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women and served as coordinator of United Nations Week in 1971. Mrs. Canner also was screening director for Women in Community Service, which recruited adolescents into the Women's Job Corps. She was vice president of the speakers' bureau of Friends of the Job Corps. Involved in theatrical organizations, she served as public relations director and board member of St. Petersburg Little Theater and appeared in numerous productions. She was the recipient of the Sound of Honor award for her work in Hadassah and B'nai B'rith, and was a nominee for Woman of the Year at the Beta Sigma Phi annual Cancer Fund Ball in 1967. A native of Malden, Mass., she attended the Greet Dramatic Academy in Washington, D.C., while working as a clerk for the War Department during World War II. She graduated from Curry College in Boston with majors in speech and dramatics. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1955 from Boston and retired as a co-owner of Canner Jewelers, Clearwater. Survivors include two sons, Marshall S., Roanoke, Va., and Alan J., Boulder; a brother, Gerald A. Friedman, Hanover, N.H.; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Beth David Chapel, 6366 Central Ave. Rabbi Stephen Moch will officiate. Burial will be at Royal Palm Cemetery.
